Landau in der Pfalz

City in the Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, 35 km/22 mi northwest of Karlsruhe; population (1994) 39,400. There are two Gothic churches. Landau is in the central Pfälzerwald and is a centre of trade in fruit, tobacco, and wine.
