Landsberg

Town in Bavaria, Germany, on the River Lech, 36 km/22 mi south of Augsburg; population (2005 est) 27,100; rural district 112,100. The town has a number of Gothic and rococo churches.

The Nazi leader Adolf Hitler was briefly imprisoned in the fortress at Landsberg after his abortive putsch in November 1923; during this period he wrote the first volume of his autobiography Mein Kampf.
