Langbein, Brenton

Langbein, Brenton (1928–1993)

Australian conductor. He trained as a violinist and played with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra 1947–51. With Maureen Jones and Barry Tuckwell he formed a trio and premiered the Trio by Don Banks at the 1962 Edinburgh Festival. He toured throughout Australia and Europe as a conductor and co-founded Opera Factory in Zurich in 1973. His London appearances with the group include Acis and Galatea (1980), a conflated version of Gluck's two Iphigenia operas (1987), and Kelterborn's Julia (1991).
