Langdon, Michael (1920–1991)

English bass. He studied in Geneva and London and from 1951 took leading roles at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, taking part in the first performances of Billy Budd (1951), Gloriana (1953), The Midsummer Marriage (1955), and Henze's We Come to the River (1976). He retired from singing in 1977 and became director of National Opera Studio 1978–86. Perhaps best known as Ochs, his other roles included Hagen, Hunding, Rocco, and Varlaam.
