Lange, Christian Louis

Lange, Christian Louis (1869–1938)

Norwegian pacifist and historian. He was active in fostering international understanding, especially through his work with the Inter-Parliamentary Union, forerunner of the League of Nations. He shared the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1921 with Karl Branting for his conciliatory international diplomacy. His major publication was History of International Relations from 1814 (1919).

Lange was secretary of the Nobel Commission of the Storting (the Norwegian parliament) 1900–09, and also a member of the Nobel Prize committee. In 1907 he was Norwegian delegate to the International Peace Conference at The Hague.
