Langholm

Market town in Dumfries and Galloway unitary authority, Scotland, situated on the River Esk, 35 km/22 mi north of Carlisle; population (2001) 2,300. Its long-established sheep fairs are major venues for the livestock trade, and it possesses tweed mills and tanneries.

The ancient ceremony of riding the Marches (the frontier with England), known as the Common Riding, begins annually in Langholm.
