Lanrezac, Charles Louis Marie

    0.39 sec.

Lanrezac, Charles Louis Marie (1852–1925)

French soldier. He saw action in the Franco-Prussian War and Tunisia. At the start of World War I, he commanded the 5th Army which was driven back from the Sambre, precipitating the retreat from Mons. He showed no tendencies toward the offensive and was incapable of liaising with the British, and so was relieved of his command October 1914 and appointed inspector of military schools.
