Laoag

Port and capital of Ilocos Norte province on northern Luzon Island in the Philippines, situated on the Laoag River, and including the municipality of San Nicolas; population (1995) 88,300. Cotton is grown extensively in the district, and there is a shipping trade in rice, fish, Indian corn, sugar, and tobacco. There are several cigarette factories.
