La Porte| City and administrative headquarters of La Porte County, northwestern Indiana, 53 km/33 mi east of Gary; population (1990) 21,500. Its products include boilers, radiators, steel castings, rubber goods, baby carriages, farm implements, clothing, and wine. In the vicinity of several lakes, it is also a popular year-round resort. |
