Lappé, Frances Moore (1944- )

US reformer and author. Her best-selling Diet for a Small Planet (1971) linked world hunger to economic injustice and urged that agriculture in developed countries shift from meat to vegetable production. She founded the Institute for Food and Development Policy in San Francisco, California, in 1975. Lappé wrote and lectured widely on economic development, population, and related issues. She was born in Pendleton, Oregon.
