Largillièrre, Nicolas de (1656–1746)

French rococo painter. Having studied in Antwerp, he moved to London and worked for Peter Lely, filling in still-life and landscape details in Lely's portraits. In 1682 he went to Paris, where he became a favourite painter with the wealthy middle classes, his works showing little depth of character but a new fluency and ease.
