Larson, Sophia (1954– )

Austrian soprano. She studied at the Salzburg Mozarteum and made her debut at St Gallen in 1976, as Amelia Boccanegra. She sang at Ulm and Bremen, 1979–83, then guested at Hamburg, Stuttgart, and Rome. Her roles have included Mozart's Ilia and Fiordiligi, Leonore, Káta Kabanová, and the Duchess of Parma, which she sang in the first performance of the fully revised version of Busoni's Doktor Faust, in Bologna in 1985. She appeared at the Bayreuth Festival from 1984, as Gutrune and Sieglinde and at the Holland Festival in 1992, as Els in Der Schatzgräber by Franz Schreker.
