Lashley, Karl S

Lashley, Karl S(pencer) (1890–1958)

US psychologist. He directed the Yerkes Laboratories for Primate Biology in Orange Park, Florida, and made valuable contributions to the study of localization of brain function. Lashley was born in Davis, Virginia. He studied zoology at the Universities of West Virginia and Pittsburgh and was influenced by John Watson's behaviourist theories while studying for his PhD at Johns Hopkins (1914). He held teaching and research positions at the universities of Minnesota (1917–26) and Chicago (1929–35), and was research professor of neuropsychology at Harvard University (1935–58).
