Lassaw, Ibram

Lassaw, Ibram (1913–2003)

Egyptian-born US sculptor. He specialized in architectural sculpture and abstract welded wire works, as in Galactic Cluster #1 (1958). In 1936 he cofounded and later became president (1946–49) of the American Abstract Artists group. Lassaw was born in Alexandria, Egypt, of Russian parents. He emigrated to the USA in 1921, and lived in East Hampton, New York.
