Latin American Economic System

International coordinating body for economic, technological, and scientific cooperation in Latin America and the Caribbean, aiming to create and promote multinational enterprises in the region and provide markets. Founded in 1975 as the successor to the Latin American Economic Coordination Commission, its members include Argentina, Barbados, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Spain (from 1979), Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay, and Venezuela. Its headquarters are in Caracas, Venezuela.

In order to promote growth among micro, small and medium enterprises, the Action Committee for the Support of Central America's Economic and Social Development, which is part of the Latin American Economic System, has been requested to devise a programme for small businesses that includes projects in six areas: production and markets; financing; commercial and technological information; training; and technological and institutional strengthening.
The Quito Declaration and Plan of Action were prepared with the assistance of the Economic Commission for Latin America (ECLA) and the Latin American Economic System (SELA).
