City and administrative headquarters of Scotland County, southern North Carolina, 61 km/38 mi southwest of Fayetteville; population (2000) 15,900. It is noted as the home of St Andrew's Presbyterian College and the Laurinburg Industrial Institute, and has varied light industries.
