Lausanne, Treaty of

Peace settlement in 1923 between Greece and Turkey after Turkey refused to accept the terms of the Treaty of Sèvres in 1920, which would have made peace with the western Allies. It involved the surrender by Greece of Smyrna (now Izmir) and East Thrace to Turkey and the enforced exchange of the Greek population of Smyrna for the Turkish population of Greece.
