Lavenham

Village in Suffolk, England, 16 km/10 mi south of Bury St Edmunds; population (2001) 1,750. It is much visited by tourists. In the 16th century Lavenham had a thriving woollen industry, and the surviving medieval buildings reflect the prosperity of that period. The village has streets of timbered houses, a late 15th-century guildhall, and a church which is a fine example of the late Perpendicular style.
