Lavignac, (Alexandre Jean) Albert (1846–1916)

French musicologist. He studied at the Paris Conservatory, where he became professor in 1882. He was founder and first editor of the Encyclopédie de la musique (1913–16); he also wrote many technical treatises and a study on Richard Wagner.
