Lavinium

Lavinium

Town in the ancient region of Latium, Italy, on the Appian Way about 32 km/20 mi south of Rome. According to tradition it was originally the city of Latinus, and was refounded by Aeneas, the legendary Trojan prince, who named it after his wife Lavinia.

One of several ruined villas in the area has been identified with that belonging to the Latin writer Pliny the Younger.
