Lawler, Ray(mond) Evenor (1921– )

Australian actor and dramatist. His work, which exemplified dramatic realism, includes The Summer of the Seventeenth Doll (1955), a play about sugar-cane cutters, in which he played the lead role in the first production in Melbourne in 1956.

His other plays include Cradle of Thunder (1949), The Piccadilly Bushman (1959), The Unshaven Cheek (1963), A Breach in the Wall (1967), The Man Who Shot the Albatross (1972), and Godsend (1982). The Summer of the Seventeenth Doll was filmed in 1959.
