Lawndale

City in southwestern California, 16 km/10 mi southwest of Los Angeles and immediately south of Hawthorne; population (1990) 27,300. An area of cemeteries, nurseries, and small farms before World War II, it is now a residential suburb.

Lawndale

Residential neighbourhood on the far West Side of Chicago, Illinois, between Douglas Park and suburban Cicero. It is largely a Hispanic and black community. Factory closings in recent decades have left it economically distressed.
