Lawrenceville

City and administrative headquarters of Gwinnett County, north Georgia, 42 km/26 mi northeast of Atlanta; population (1990) 16,800. Local industries manufacture aluminium products, boats, and clothing.

Lawrenceville

Section of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on the Allegheny River, 5 km/3 mi northeast of the Golden Triangle (the triangle of land between the converging Allegheny and Monongahela rivers). The area is divided between industrial and commercial flats characterized by now-closed mills and blast furnaces, and residential higher ground.

A Delaware American Indian village until the 18th century, it was laid out in 1814. The US composer Stephen Foster was born here (1826).

Lawrenceville

Town and administrative headquarters of Brunswick County, southern Virginia, 64 km/40 mi southwest of Petersburg, and 24 km/15 mi north of the North Carolina border; population (1990) 1,500. It is a trade centre for the area's tobacco, grain, and cotton.
