Lawton, Jeffrey (1939– )

English tenor. He studied at the Royal Manchester College of Music and sang Alvaro and Otello in Manchester 1974–75. He appeared at the Welsh National Opera from 1981, as Florestan, Huon, Laca, and Aeneas in Les Troyens; his Siegfried and Tristan (1986 and 1993) were also admired at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London. Other roles include Otello (which he sang in Paris and Brussels, 1987) and Siegmund and Siegfried (which he sang in Cologne, 1988–89). He appeared with the English National Opera ensemble in 1989 as Edmund in Reimann's Lear and with Opera North in 1992, as Shuisky.
