Le Sueur, Eustache

Also found in: Encyclopedia 0.02 sec.

Le Sueur, Eustache (1616–1655)

French painter. He specialized in religious and mythological works. His style was influenced first by the Renaissance Classicism of Raphael Sanzio and then the baroque classicism of his contemporary Nicolas Poussin.

The tenderness Le Sueur brought to their Classicism can be seen in his major achievement, the 22 paintings in the Life of St Bruno series 1645–48 executed for a Carthusian monastery in Paris.
