Le Touquet| Seaside resort in northern France, at the mouth of the River Canche, in the départment of Pas-de-Calais, 220 km/137 mi north of Paris; population (1999 est) 5,300. It was developed as a resort in the late 19th century by Alphonse Daloz, who acquired the land in 1837, and was particularly fashionable in the 1920s and 1930s. The town is noted for its architectural variety. |
