LeFanu, Nicola (1947– )

English composer, daughter of Elizabeth Maconchy. She studied at Oxford and with Egon Wellesz and Goffredo Petrassi. She lectured at Morley College, London, 1970–75, and in 1977 was appointed lecturer at King's College, London.

Works Stage operas Dawnpath (1977), Blood Wedding (1992), and Wild Man (1995); ballet The Last Laugh for soprano, tape, and chamber orchestra (1972).

Orchestral Preludio for strings (1967; revised 1976), The Hidden Landscape for orchestra (1973), Columbia Fall for percussion, harp, and strings (1975), Farne for orchestra (1979), Variations for piano and orchestra (1982), concerto for alto saxophone and orchestra (1989).
