Ledley, Robert Steven

Ledley, Robert Steven (1926– )

US radiologist and inventor. He held a variety of research posts in government and academia before becoming a professor of radiology at the Georgetown University Medical Center in 1970. His pioneering work in the use of computers in medicine included the invention of the CT diagnostic X-ray scanner. The device made medical imaging and three-dimensional reconstruction possible, and led to improvements in radiation therapy for cancer patients. Ledley was born in New York City.
