Ledyard

Town in southeastern Connecticut, on the Thames River, 11 km/7 mi northeast of New London; population (1990) 14,900. Situated in a farming area, it is largely residential. The first legal gambling casino in New England opened here in February 1992.

The casino, known as Foxwoods, promises to transform the life of Ledyard and nearby rural communities. Ledyard is also the site of Fort Decatur, built during the War of 1812.
