Lee, Ang (1954– )Taiwanese-born US film director, screenwriter, and producer. His film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) won four Academy Awards in 2001, including the award for Best Foreign Language Film, and was credited with re-popularizing the kung fu film genre. In 2006 he earned an Academy Award for Best Director for his film Brokeback Mountain (2005), a homosexual love story between two cowboys during the 1960s and 70s. Ang was born in Pingtung, Taiwan. He studied at the New York University film school, and has since been based in New York. His first feature film was Pushing Hands (1992), which starred his frequent collaborator Sihung Lung. He went on to enjoy critical and commercial success with his comedies of manners The Wedding Banquet (1993) and Eat Drink Man Woman (1994), and subsequently Sense and Sensibility (1995) and The Ice Storm (1997). He also directed the comic-book Hollywood blockbuster Hulk (2003)) and the spy thriller Lust, Caution (2007). How to thank TFD for its existence?
