Leeuw, Ton de (1926- )

Dutch composer. His chief interest is in experimental music, and he has been influenced by musique concrète as well as serialism.

He studied composition in Paris, France, with Olivier Messiaen and Thomas de Hartmann. He became interested in musical folklore and in 1961 toured India to collect material.

Opera

TV opera Alceste (1963), opera De Droom/The Dream (1965).

Choral

oratorio Job (1956), and other choral music.

Orchestral

two symphonies, Ombres for orchestra and percussion, concertos for piano and string orchestra, Spatial Music I-IV, Litany of Our Time (1965-68), Resonances for orchestra (1985), concerto for guitar and strings (1989).

Chamber

two string quartets (1958, 1964); Apparences I for cello (1987); piano music.
