legacy system

In computing, old computing systems which are utilized alongside newer systems.

There are options other than abandoning a legacy system entirely. Organizations such as Oracle supply integration solutions that attempt to translate data from the old system to the new electronic commerce technology. Application Service Providers (ASPs) provide another solution, allowing companies to offload their software applications to the ASP's servers while they transfer from the legacy systems to the new technology.
