Lehman, Adele Lewisohn (1882-1965)

US philanthropist, art collector, and painter. She became active in the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies, of which her husband was a founder; after he died she founded the Arthur Lehman Counselling Service to help people needing psychiatric services. Her philanthropies extended to many activities, from the woman suffrage movement to handicapped children. She and her husband collected Italian art works, many of which became part of various museum collections. She also painted landscapes and still lives. She was born Adele Lewisohn in New York City and married Arthur Lehman, an investment banker in 1901. She studied at Barnard College, graduating in 1900.
