Lehmann, Phyllis

Lehmann, Phyllis (1912– )

US classical archaeologist. She was assistant field director of the excavations in Samothrace, of which her husband, Karl Lehmann, was director. She wrote a number of books, articles, and catalogues for exhibitions of classical art. With her husband, she wrote Samothracian Reflection: Aspects of the Revival of the Antique (1973). Lehmann was born Phyllis Williams in New York City. She graduated from Wellesley College in 1934 and received her PhD from New York University in 1943. She taught at Smith College from 1946 until her retirement in 1978.
