Leighton, Kenneth (1929–1988)

English composer. He was lecturer at Edinburgh University, Scotland, 1956–68, and at Oxford University, England, 1968–70. From 1970 he was professor at Edinburgh University. His output includes three piano concertos and the fantasy octet ‘Homage to Percy Grainger’ (1982).

He studied at Queen's College, Oxford, and with Goffredo Petrassi in Rome, Italy. He won several prizes for composition.

concerto for strings, two symphonies (1964, 1974), three piano concertos (1951–69), violin concerto, cello concerto.
