Lelystad

New town in the northwest of East Flevoland; population (2006 est) 71,400. Having been rapidly populated by overspill from Amsterdam and surrounding conurbations, Lelystad serves mainly as a dormitory town for these cities. Some light industry has developed locally and the town is the main service centre for the southern IJsselmeer polder region.
