Lemercier, Jacques

Lemercier, Jacques (1585–1654)

French architect, born at Pontoise. He built the Pavillon de l'Horloge at the Louvre, Paris (1624); then, for Cardinal Richelieu, the château and town of Richelieu in Poitou (1625–35); the Sorbonne, with its church, in Paris (1629 onwards); the Palais-Cardinal, later Palais-Royal, in Paris, and the château of Rueil (around 1630).

He also designed the church at Richelieu, the Oratoire and St Roch in Paris; and completed François Mansart's church of Val-de-Grace, Paris (1646 onwards).
