Strauss, Leo (1899–1973)

German-born US political scientist. He emigrated to the USA in 1938. He taught at the New School for Social Research until 1949, then at the University of Chicago 1949–67. Known for his fierce allegiance to the study of classical political philosophy, he shunned the new behavioural and quantitative approaches to political science.

He was born in Kirchhain (Hesse), Germany, and educated in Germany.
