Torreón

Industrial and agricultural city in Coahuila state, northern Mexico, on the River Nazas at an altitude of 1,127 m/3,700 ft; population (2005) 1,110,900. Before the arrival of the railway in 1907 Torreón was the largest of the three Laguna cotton-district cities (with Gómez Palacio and Ciudad Lerdo). Since then it has developed as a major thoroughfare and commercial centre.
