Leriche, René (1879–1955)

French surgeon, professor of medicine at the Collège de France, Paris, from 1928. His conducted important research on the physiology and surgery of the blood vessels, and on the relief of pain, particularly by cutting sympathetic nerves.

Le Riche was born at Roanne, Loire, and graduated in medicine at Lyons in 1906. In 1920 he was appointed professor of experimental surgery at Lyons, and in 1924 was made professor of clinical surgery at Strasbourg.
