Lerner, Alan Jay (1918–1986)US lyricist. He collaborated with Frederick Loewe on musicals including Brigadoon (1947), Paint Your Wagon (1951), My Fair Lady (1956), and Camelot (1960); and on the film Gigi (1958). Most of his musicals became successful films. Gigi, written directly for film, earned nine Academy Awards. He also produced scripts such as An American in Paris (1951), for which he earned an Academy Award.
