Les Six

Group of French composers: Georges Auric, Louis Durey, Arthur Honegger, Darius Milhaud, Francis Poulenc, and Germaine Tailleferre. Formed in 1917, the group had Jean Cocteau as its spokesperson and adopted Erik Satie as its guru; it was dedicated to producing works free from foreign influences and reflecting contemporary attitudes. The group split up in the early 1920s.
