Lespinasse, Jeanne Julie Eleonore de (1732-1776)

French socialite and writer. She was the hostess of a leading literary salon in Paris. Her highly emotional Lettres/Letters 1809 were later acclaimed.

She acted as companion to Madame du Deffand 1754-64, and in her salon met the encyclopedist Jean Alembert, with whom she later lived.
