Lessel, Franz (Franciszek) (1780–1838)

Polish-Austrian composer. He studied medicine in Vienna, but became a pupil of Haydn, whom he looked after until his death. He then returned to Poland and lived with Prince Czartoryski's family until they were driven away by the Revolution. The rest of his life was unsettled.

Works

three Masses, Requiem and other church music; five symphonies; piano concerto; chamber music; piano sonatas and fantasies.
