As our ship makesits way among the Leeward Islands of the Caribbean's Lesser Antilles, there is a low, dark hump out there on the water, adorned with a glittering string of lights. Martinique and Guadeloupe are 2 Caribbean islands located in the Lesser Antilles and represent the French West Indies, and French Guiana is located southeast of the French West Indies in northern South America between Suriname and Brazil. Maarten, it's a ten-minute flight with memorable views--the calm, turquoise sea, barren volcanic rocks jutting out of the water at rakish angles, ships cruising the Lesser Antilles. |
