Leszno

Capital of Leszno province, Poland, 65 km/41 mi south of Poznań; population (2002) 63,700. It is an industrial town manufacturing rolling stock and machinery; lignite is mined locally.

Leszno is a historic town, associated in the 16th–17th centuries with the Bohemian Brethren, an extreme sect of the Hussites. Nearby is an international centre of gliding.
