Levelland

City and administrative headquarters of Hockley County, western Texas, 48 km/30 mi west of Lubbock; population (1990) 14,000. Livestock and fruit are produced locally, and the city has oil and gas refineries and produces fertilizer, oilfield and irrigation equipment, and plastics.

The cereal magnate C W Post laid out the city in 1912 on former ranch land. South Plains College (1957) is here.
