Levine, Lena (1903-1965)

US psychiatrist and gynecologist. An early advocate in the 1920s and 1930s of family planning, she promoted sex education, egalitarian marriages, and contraception. A Freudian from the early 1940s, she counselled women in New York City and wrote widely on such subjects as menopause, frigidity, and sexual relations in marriage. Levine was born in New York City.
