Libeskind, Daniel

Libeskind, Daniel (1946– )

Polish-born US architect. Associated with the deconstructivist movement, he is best known for designing major cultural institutions, such as the Felix Nussbaum Haus (the city museum of Osnabrück, Germany, 1998), the Jewish Museum in Berlin, Germany (2001), and the Imperial War Museum North, Manchester, England (2002). He is also redeveloping the site in New York City of the World Trade Center towers, which were destroyed in the terrorist attack of 11 September 2001.

His other projects include urban and landscape designs, stage designs, and exhibitions.

Libeskind studied music and became a virtuoso performer before his career in architecture. He received his architecture degree from Cooper Union, New York City, in 1970 and a postgraduate degree from Essex University in 1972. He established his current firm, Studio Libeskind, in Berlin, Germany, in 1990.
