Lichtenstein, Tehilla (1893–1973)

Palestinian-born religious leader. The leader of the Society of Jewish Science, she was the head of the Congress of Jewish Science and the first woman to occupy a Jewish pulpit in the USA. She was the author of a number of books, including What it Means to Be a Jew (1943) and Choosing Your Way to Happiness (1954). Lichtenstein was born in Jerusalem, Palestine (now Israel). She received a BA from Hunter College and an MA from Columbia University.
